The famous Barret-Jackson auto auction was conducted this past weekend in Scottsdale, Arizona. Barret-Jackson auctions, which are solely for collector vehicles, is famous throughout the automotive world. This year’s auction had one of the most famous cars from television among the vehicles being sold – the General Lee. The General Lee is a 1969 Dodge Charger which was used in the shooting of the show ‘Dukes of Hazard’. Though there were many Chargers used during the filming, this particular one was rebuilt after being totaled from the title sequence scene. Professional golfer Bubba Watson won that prize with a bid the high bid of only $110,000.
A 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 prototype sold for $300,000 during the Barret-Jackson auction, a difference of $190,00 from the Charger. This particular Mustang was first manufactured in 2007 but was given all the latest goodies which are set to appear under the hood of the 2013 Shelby, and then some. It was designed by the Ford SVT performance division and approved by Carroll Shelby himself. The 5.8 liter 8 cylinder engine has 650HP and can reach 200mph. It’s not currently street legal, but will be one heck of a ride on the tracks.
